• Help Us Unite Communities Through Baseball

The Sandlot Initiative started 8 years ago with a vision to use baseball and softball back to kids in inner city and low-income neighborhoods. The plan would be to either build or redevelop an existing field, to then be able to offer free resources and programming to these children. After spending several years trying to identify the right location, we finally found the perfect spot. We were ready to kick things off, and then…..Covid. Like everything else in the world, progress on Sandlot shut down completely. We would need to get to the other end before picking things up again.

We have spent the past year with the City of North Charleston, focused on getting things in order for the Chicora Park Complex in North Charleston. In partnership with The Ripken Foundation and the Charleston RiverDog’s, Sandlot is now ready to begin the fundraising for the buildout of a full-size regulation field and a smaller 12u/softball field. Upon completion, we will be overseeing operations to bring the great game back to these kids.
Sandlot is already looking at a 2nd location in the upstate of SC. Our bigger plan is to create a franchise model to bring out to communities around the country, ideally in partnership with minor league teams.
We know this will be a long process, but after waiting 8 years to get to this point, we have never been more driven to see the original vision turned into reality. Stay tuned for more news over the coming months! #Baseballunites.
